The annual Conference organized by the IASP association, which aims to bring together the representatives of Science and Technology Parks and Innovation Areas from around the world has already taken place in this year 2018.
The chosen city to host this important annual event was Isfahan, in Iran: it is the cultural capital of the country, and it has a beautiful landscape and architecture that the assistants to the congress could witness during the guided tour offered by the organization, during the pre-congress day
The theme on which the Conference has revolved has been: "Towards sustainable cities and communities: fostering an innovation ecosystem", which is why a large part of the plenary and parallel sessions have addressed this important challenge.
In this sense, we had presentations such as that of Samuel Bachelot, from Atlanpole, who said that "the first challenge for sustainable cities is to reduce their carbon emissions: this will be the goal of mobility of the future, creating more people-focused places"; or Malcolm Parry, of Surrey Research Park, who stated that "By 2030, towns and cities of the developing world will make up 80% of urban humanity. These cities can become people-centred, and enable sustainable development."
During the course of the Conference a vote took place among members to choose the city that will host this same congress in the year 2020. Seville together with the PCT Cartuja was one of the candidates, together with the Technological Park of Ljubljana (Slovenia), and the Research and Technological Innovation Park of Monterrey (Mexico). After the votes, Seville was the chosen city, so the IASP partners will meet again in our city, after the 2019 meeting that will take place in Nantes (France).
