SPEEDIER is a highly innovative comprehensive solution that applies an integrated approach to energy management, provides information, advice, capacity building, energy audits, financing, implementation of energy efficiency solutions and impact monitoring.
The Cartuja STP will host one of the 4 pilot projects planned in different European countries under the SPEEDIER project, with funding of 2,1 million euros, to implement energy saving measures within companies.
This 30-month European project has a budget of EUR 2.1 million and is co-financed by the European Union (EU) Horizon 2020 Framework Programme (H2020). The aim of SPEEDIER is to promote energy audits and the implementation of energy saving measures in SME’s.
SPEEDIER envisages four pilot areas for its implementation, one of which will be the Cartuja STP. According to the European resolution, it is an added benefit to have spaces where SME’s can live and work together, as they are able to undertake initiatives based on economies of scale, such as happens here in the Seville park.
Development of this project relies on self-financing by SME’s of both the energy audit and the implementation of energy saving measures. To do this, an energy manager will be outsourced, and SME’s will have access to this manager when they need it. The self-financing that SME’s will be able to take advantage of, will be achieved through an energy performance contract, whereby the consultant would keep part of the savings achieved as payment for the duration of the contract.
This will overcome several obstacles that the EU asked to be removed: lack of experience on the part of the SME’s, lack of resources (time and money), a perception that energy audits are expensive and an inability to act because they do not control the services of the building where they are located.
